- SVU/ICAC Detective
Description
- Investigates sexual assault, child abuse, child exploitation, human trafficking, and related person-crime cases.
- Leads and conducts ICAC investigations, suspect identification, evidence preservation, and case development.
- Performs or supervises digital forensic work: forensic acquisition, triage, analysis and interpretation of computers, mobile devices, cloud services, social media, encrypted apps and IoT data.
- Authors and executes search warrants, digital warrants, affidavits and court orders; prepares technical attachments as needed.
- Directs crime scene operations and coordinates with CSU/forensic personnel to preserve physical and digital evidence.
- Maintains chain-of-custody, forensic documentation, and case management for prosecutorial readiness.
- Prepares detailed investigative and technical reports, exhibits and case files; testifies as an expert or fact witness.
- Coordinates with prosecutors, ICAC task forces, federal partners, child advocacy centers, victim advocates and social services.
- Conducts proactive investigative activities: online monitoring, OSINT, undercover operations, surveillance and suspect containment.
- Provides training and technical guidance to officers, investigators and community partners on ICAC, digital evidence handling and victim-centered protocols.
- Maintains on-call availability for critical incidents; respond to major incidents as required.
- Upholds departmental policies, professionalism, and ethical standards; notifies CID Sergeant of sensitive matters.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements
High School diploma or GED equivalent. Must be a currently sworn Arizona law enforcement officer in good standing with a recognized law enforcement agency, or eligible for and able to successfully complete the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) waiver process and obtain Arizona peace officer certification. Minimum of three (3) years of sworn investigative experience required, including direct experience investigating sex crimes, crimes against children, Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) cases, or digital evidence related offenses; five (5) years of experience strongly preferred.
Demonstrated experience in the following:
- Conducting ICAC investigations, including online enticement, sexual exploitation of minors, child pornography investigations, undercover online operations, or peer-to-peer (P2P) investigations.
- Preparing and executing search warrants, subpoenas, and preservation requests involving electronic evidence, digital devices, and online service providers.
- Handling, preserving, analyzing, and documenting digital evidence in accordance with forensic and evidentiary standards.
- Conducting victim-centered investigations involving sexual offenses or crimes against children.
