Description
Your role and responsibilities
Software Developer, IBM Corporation, Houston, Texas (Up to 40% telecommuting permitted):
- Design, implement, and maintain components for company's large scale geographically distributed object-storage subsystems (not client SDKs).
- Deliver features involving low-level data-path optimization, garbage-collection tuning, and subsystem-level performance profiling using Go.
- Tune Go code using pprof, race detector, mutex profiling, and custom instrumentation for high-traffic storage workloads.
- Demonstrate production ownership of storage-node components handling erasure-coded data, slice-repair workflows, quorum-based access logic, and multi-region consistency guarantees.
- Participate in a 24/7 rotational on-call pager duty supporting a cloud object-storage offering handling at least 100 PB of addressable capacity, including documented root-cause analyses for production incidents involving network partitions, node churn, gossip-protocol instability, or write-path congestion.
- Write and review detailed requirement specifications within Agile squads using Jira integrated with GitHub, including storypoint sizing based strictly on throughput, latency, and replication-factor implications.
- Design subsystem changes documented in architecture decision records (ADRs) with accompanying sequence diagrams and cluster-state transition flows.
- Create new black-box, white-box, soak, and chaos-injection test cases for storage-layer features; implement automated integration tests running in CI against a multi-node Kubernetes-deployed object-storage testbed.
- Build internal health-check monitors leveraging continuous canary writes, slice-integrity validators, and automated repair-rate thresholds, with successful rollout into a production internal monitoring system.
- Leverage advanced Go programming language to create generics, unsafe operations, and custom memory allocators.
- Implement internal analytics pipelines on object-storage metadata using Apache Spark with Scala.
- Write custom Fluentd plugins for storage telemetry ingestion using Ruby.
- Utilize Cloud Architecture (in multi-region object-storage topologies), Kubernetes (with deployment of stateful object-storage clusters), Sysdig (for low-level container), Activity Tracker (for object-storage access pattern audits), Advanced Go Programming Language, Spark with Scala, Fluentd with Ruby.
Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering or related and five (5) years of experience as a Software Developer, Software Engineer or related. Five (5) years of experience must include utilizing Cloud Architecture (in multi-region object-storage topologies), Kubernetes (with deployment of stateful object-storage clusters), Sysdig (for low-level container), Activity Tracker (for object-storage access pattern audits), Advanced Go Programming Language, Spark with Scala, Fluentd with Ruby. $177213 to $210200 per year.
