Your role and responsibilities

Senior Software Engineer, IBM Corporation, San Jose, CA (Up to 40% telecommuting permitted):

• Lead the design, development, and performance optimization of distributed SQL query engine components, primarily within the Presto and Velox ecosystems.
• Implement and extend native execution capabilities in Presto, contribute to core performance features, ensure seamless compatibility between various engine components.
• Design and implement REST endpoints in the sidecar process to expose native worker capabilities, enabling deeper integration between the Presto coordinator and native execution engine for features like constant folding.
• Drive the code review and discussion process with company's technical leaders and Meta reviewers.
• Develop and maintain a dedicated test framework (presto-native-tests) to validate native execution support across a wide set of SQL queries, identify and fix bugs, and integrate test pipelines into CI infrastructure (e.g., Jenkins).
• Implement a Presto-native TPC-DS connector to support benchmarking and workload validation on native infrastructure.
• Lead the primary investigation and implement the data generator to simulate customer workload for the stress test and high concurrent test.
• Mentor junior engineers on the development process, code debugging, and environment setup.
• Provide hands-on prototyping for new components or frameworks when needed.
• Present FusionNext architect and user stories in annual Presto conference.
• Demonstrate Presto C++ and host hands-on lab for Presto in company's TechXchange.
• Utilize: Presto, Velox, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes.

Required: Master's degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related (employer will accept a Bachelor's degree plus five (5) years of progressive experience in lieu of a Master's degree) and one (1) year of experience as a Software Developer or related.
