Campaign Zero’s Managing Director of Policy and Campaigns is responsible for leading the Campaigns team from a policy campaign’s inception through to translating campaign objectives and data into model policy recommendations that will maximize the organization’s impact and reach. The Managing Director of Policy and Campaigns is responsible for developing the strategy for campaign development, policy recommendations, and how/where to prioritize and scale policy adoption. The Managing Director of Policy and Campaigns will lead a team of managers and analysts, and oversee the creation of resources for policy leaders, organizers, community members, and elected officials to understand key aspects of policy change, implementation levers, and considerations for adopting policy recommendations. The Managing Director of Policy and Campaigns will help to build the skills and capacity of team members, contractors and organizers to collect data, make stakes in the ground, and then speak to the content and rationale of policy recommendations to bring about legislative change in their communities. The Managing Director of Policy and Campaigns is a part of the Campaign Zero leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities:
-Lead a team of staff and contractors to develop campaigns - overseeing the campaign workflow from inception, to data collection; putting stakes in the ground, through launch, and when engaging with changemakers.
-Collaborate with the Research & Data Team to ensure rigorous data collection & policy development as campaigns move through the internal workflow.
-Develop a strategy to expand and engage a broader base of expert & community partners, legislators and policy makers across multiple states/cities.
-Collaborate with state-level lobbyists to develop strategy for outreach prioritization and policy adoption.
-Facilitate weekly meetings with Campaigns & Policy team members to identify needs and strategize policy-aligned actions based on community-specific needs.
-Facilitate pre-meetings, as needed to prepare staff for meetings with legislators.
-Provide weekly summary with updates and action items for CZ staff.
-Develop a scope and sequence for onboarding, trainings and ongoing supports for new and existing Policy team members to build -campaign familiarity and skills.
-Collaborate with design and social media consultants to develop content reflective of policy objectives.
-Commit to continually developing content expertise on all Campaign Zero campaigns.
-Directly engage in meetings or engagements with senior decision-makers, organizers, media representatives and legislators, as needed, to relay campaign objectives with rationale and supporting data.
-Continuously working to improve internal processes and systems.
-Set strategic priorities for the team.
-Provide ongoing feedback, solutions, and complete relevant tasks to support each stage of the campaign planning and implementation process.
-Model simultaneous flexibility alongside consistent follow-through.
-Engage in weekly CZ staff meetings, model best practices for soliciting and providing solutions-oriented feedback/action steps.
Requirements
-Bachelor’s degree required in public policy, political science, sociology, or related fields
-3-5+ years of progressive experience in policy, advocacy, or campaigns, with at least 2 years in a leadership role
-Experience working directly with elected officials, legislative staff, and/ or government decision-makers
-Experience conducting policy or program analysis, or creating policy frameworks at scale
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex policy content to diverse audiences
-Experience in criminal justice reform, public safety policy, or human rights advocacy preferred
