Description
Intern candidates must be pursuing a degree or certificate in turfgrass management or a related field.SUMMARY
Under supervision performs a wide range of daily golf course maintenance duties. Interns will be provided with a challenging position that will allow them to use some of the skills and experience gained in their academic setting and previous work experience. Interns will be shown the tools to achieve any goals or academic requirements they would like to fulfill during their employment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform wide ranges of duties to give broad exposure and experience as required by internship.
- Employee should be attentive, alert, on time, properly attired, and ready to receive instruction promptly at the beginning of shift.
- At the end of shift, complete the daily log sheet to include Daily Standards and break log check off.
- Operates most, if not all, equipment used on daily maintenance, both walking and riding equipment as well as restricted use pieces of equipment.
- Operates small machinery to assist with edging, trimming and mowing.
- Involved with tasks related to golf course detail (weed and debris clean-up, poa eradication, etc).
- Participates in topdressing and fertilizer applications of greens, tees and fairways and lawns.
- Maintains gasoline or diesel, oil and other equipment fluid levels daily. Checking in at both the beginning and end of shift.
- Report equipment problems and failures to the mechanic immediately and fill out the correct paperwork.
- May perform daily equipment repair and maintenance as directed by Head Mechanic.
- Planting, pruning, and transport of vegetative material.
- Ensures that all equipment used is washed properly, returned to designated location and charging if applicable.
- Participates in irrigation practices, such as hand watering, syringing and repairs.
- Involved in leading up small crews and may be relied upon for crew leadership on weekends and available for overtime as needed.
- Participation in both maintenance, construction, and appropriate miscellaneous projects.
- Participation in formalized weekly intern meetings held throughout the season.
- Maintain proper radio etiquette and return radios to chargers when finished.
- Able to effectively handle multiple tasks.
- Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Maintains a professional standard at Juniper Preserve including, but not limited to, appearance, interaction with members, associates, guests of the resort, verbal discussions and written correspondence. Does not discuss work related issues with members and resort guests.
- Maintains positive attitude and the flexibility to take on new and different tasks as assigned by the Director of Agronomy/superintendents/mechanics.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability to read and speak English
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- The ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervision of Greenskeepers when called upon.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Driver's License required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
No travel requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Primarily outdoor shifts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
