Employment Opportunity: Water Treatment Plant Operator
The City of Effingham Public Works Department is seeking candidates to serve as a Water Treatment Plant Operator with an A, B, C, or D license certification. This position reports to the Water Treatment Plant Chief Operator. This position is full-time, with a starting wage ranging from $39.41 (Class A) - $32.97 (Class D), based on the level of operator license certification. Wages incrementally increase as defined by union contract.

Duties:
- Collects samples, conducts lab tests, or orders lab tests to be performed;
- Reads meters, gauges, and dials and maintains logs of readings;
- Regulates water levels in all units;
- Reviews plant log records, gauges, meters, and monitors other plant testing and measuring devices to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and accurately;
- Responds to emergency calls;
- Performs plant maintenance, including repair and overhaul maintenance of equipment on a regular basis;
- Performs laboratory tasks and conducts required EPA and IEPA tests;
- Orders chemicals and applies chemicals;
- Maintains current knowledge of professional developments and regulatory requirements in the profession, including maintaining appropriate professional development hours in compliance with relevant requirements;
- Submits reports to the appropriate agencies, including the IEPA;
- Operates the water treatment plant in compliance with IEPA standards;
- Performs other related duties in coordination with other divisions of the Public Works Department, as required;

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent from college or technical school;
- Or one (1) - two (2) years related experience and/or training;
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Possess Class A-D WTP Operator License from IEPA.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or equivalent from college or technical school;
- Or three (3) - four (4) years related experience and/or training;
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Possess Class A WTP Operator License from IEPA.
- Possess or obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) upon employment.
