NFPA is looking to add an Electrical Technical Lead to the Engineering Technical Services team!
Job Description
The role of the Electrical Technical Lead consists of several parts:
- Technical Leadership The tech lead is active in their industry fostering strong stakeholder relationships; understanding their day-to-day needs and the impact of emerging issues. They keep their finger on the pulse of their industries and influence their peers representing the voice of NFPA as they pursue our vision and mission. They use their robust industry knowledge to lead our internal teams by sharing technical landscapes, identifying opportunities, and helping to define value through technical perspective.
- Liaison to Product and Marketing Channel Owners The Tech Lead works with channel and product directors to ensure that the products and content that we are creating meet our customers' needs and have a strong technical focus. This will include developing technical outlines (project skeletons) based on the content needs identified by our business/marketing team members.
- Resourcing Projects - The Tech Lead will be responsible for assigning both internal and external technical resources (SMEs) for all of our approved products, content, & engagements.
- Technical Development - The Tech Lead will be responsible for making sure the individual contributors on the Technical Services Team, and the entirety of NFPA maintain a technical knowledge base that allows NFPA to provide relevant and timely content to our stakeholders. This includes developing an understanding of emerging technologies, processes, hazards and related products.
- Team Lead The Tech Lead is responsible for the leadership, development, and management of the engineers/specialists assigned to their technical area.
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) The Tech Lead will serve as an SME where assigned (often by themselves). This may include the development of products, marketing material, speaking at external events, serving on external committees, and providing technical review of organizational assets.
PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Applies subject matter expertise to support and steer technical projects, facilitate the development of customer-centric products (training, certification, other products), and contribute to defining and achieving the strategic priorities of the Association.
- Identifies stakeholder needs for new or improved products and services, and translates those needs into opportunities for the development of technical solutions.
- Assigning technical resources for projects using the Technical Resources Portal and the Skills and Expertise Database.
- Provides Technical Leadership within the Technical Services team and for the Association as a whole.
- Utilize expert level knowledge to develop internal technical staff to meet the evolving needs of the Association. This will include creating development plans for technical staff, identifying training opportunities, externships, pairing individuals with senior staff, stretch projects, etc.
- Act as the main point of contact and liaison to the marketing channel owners, product teams, and communication team members on behalf of technical staff.
- Build and establish relationships with key external stakeholders and serve as the "face" of NFPA for related activities (attendance at meetings, presentations, etc.)
- Engages with external stakeholders to identify technical information and knowledge needs and assess the efficacy of the Association's current products in meeting those requirements.
- Applies subject matter expertise in the evaluation, assessment and prioritization of stakeholder needs.
- Serves as technical expert and project lead on association-wide initiatives including new product development, stakeholder engagement activities and ad-hoc project teams.
- Consults with internal staff on complex technical committee activities and projects throughout the document development process.
- Maintains strong connection with internal and external stakeholders, creates dialogue, coordinates resources and collaborates with internal stakeholders, including Staff Liaisons, marketing team members, Regional Operations team and Product Managers, to execute on projects.
- Provides technical expertise to other internal departments, such as marketing, training and certification.
- Lead, develop, and manage direct reports by setting clear goals and expectations and by committing to managing for performance excellence.
- Set direction for, lead and provide day-to-day management, mentoring, and coaching to the electrical engineer/specialists to ensure the highest levels of performance and productivity in support of Association initiatives.
- Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
- Experience: 11 15 years of related experience.
- Education: Master's degree or equivalent required
Knowledge:
- Technical knowledge of electrical topics including a strong foundation in the application of the NEC, electrical theory, and an understanding of NFPA's Electrical Cycle of Safety.
- While this job is focused on electrical system installation, maintenance, and worker safety, some background with NFPA's standards process, building codes, and OSHA requirements is preferred.
- Expert knowledge of professional concepts within own function; applies knowledge to carry out complex work assignments and large scale projects; interprets internal and external business issues and recommends solutions.
