Description
Fair Wind Air Charter, a private aviation company based in Stuart, Florida, is seeking a Part 91 Second-in-Command (SIC) to support a managed fleet of two Gulfstream G280 aircraft based at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (KROC).
This position operates within a small, highly collaborative team environment supporting flight operations. The department values professionalism, sound judgment, and strong crew coordination. The successful candidate will approach aviation as a professional craft, demonstrate humility, and contribute positively to a stable and high-trust team culture.
The SIC supports the Captain in all aspects of flight operations and trip execution. Responsibilities include participation in flight planning, aircraft operation, passenger support, and aircraft readiness while away from base. The SIC is also expected to contribute outside the cockpit by attending meetings, responding to verbal and written communications and supporting departmental initiatives and operational needs as assigned. This role requires strong flying fundamentals, sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to integrate effectively into an established team environment.
The position reports to the Director of Aviation (with operational support from Fair Wind Air Charter management) and operates under the authority of the aircraft Captain during flight operations.
Requirements
Position Details:
- Operation: Part 91 flight operations supporting owner travel
- Aircraft: Gulfstream G280 (two aircraft)
- Base: Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (KROC)
- Schedule: Varies based on operational requirements. This will include weekends, holidays, overnights, and short-notice trips.
- Travel: May include domestic and international destinations. Some travel may occur via airline.
- Operational Environment: Small team environment requiring flexibility, professionalism, and strong crew coordination.
- Aircraft Readiness: Crewmembers participate in aircraft readiness while away from base, including cleaning, stocking, and baggage handling. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required.
Required Qualifications:
- FAA ATP certificate or flight experience approaching ATP (or ATP-R) minimum qualifications
- Current First-Class Medical Certificate
- Valid U.S. passport and ability to travel internationally without restriction
- Ability to meet company training and insurance requirements
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks and execute a confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement as a condition of employment
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Ability to obtain and maintain airport SIDA badge
- Ability to reside within 60 minutes of aircraft base
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal formats
- Basic proficiency with standard office software and digital communication tools used in a professional work environment (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent professional aviation experience
- Turbine aircraft experience
- Corporate or charter flight experience
- Type rating in Gulfstream or similar aircraft
- Strong proficiency with standard office software and digital communication tools, including the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)
