Although based out of the Legacy System Office, this is a hybrid role that is highly consultative and has regular meetings at Legacy locations throughout the Portland-Vancouver metro area. On days that onsite activity is not scheduled, individuals may work remotely.
Responsibilities
The Risk Management Consultant is a member of the Legacy Risk Management team and reports directly to the Director, Regulatory & Risk Management. As part of the system-wide Legacy Quality & Safety program, the Consultant's responsibility is to ensure equitable access to Legacy facilities and services, while responding to patient or family concerns.
The Consultant acts as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) patient ADA Coordinator, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 Coordinator and the Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act Coordinator.
- Responsible for ensuring the organization maintains compliance with relevant policies, procedures, laws and regulations.
- Essential functions include: investigating allegations of non-compliance in partnership with compliance subject matter experts; auditing, monitoring, tracking and reporting compliance issues; maintaining Legacy Health's system-wide policies/ procedures; providing advice and assistance to Legacy workforce members; and developing an initial and on-going compliance training program.
- Responsible for maintaining current knowledge of applicable federal and state (Oregon and Washington) laws and regulations and acts as an expert resource and representative when compliance issues arise.
- Coordinates and/or participates as an active member on committees, programs or teams that include compliance regulation objectives and performs regular and random audits of internal departments to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Works collaboratively to share information about compliance risks and to develop mitigation strategies to ensure that compliance risks are addressed at Legacy.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or the equivalent related business experience required.
Experience:
- Minimum two years compliance experience in a health care environment required.
- One to two years experience as a patient ADA Coordinator; Section 1557 Coordinator and/or Section 504 Coordinator preferred.
Skills:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to Legacy services.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication and presentation skills; ability to present to various levels within the organization.
- Strong interdepartmental collaboration skills, willingness to engage across teams and demonstrates the ability to lead indirectly through influence.
- Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects and a variety of complicated tasks at the same time.
- Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, research, analytical, presentation, facilitation, organizational, consultation and training
- Organizational skills both to function independently and to work closely with other professionals using a team approach,
- A high level of professional and personal integrity.
- Judgment skills to make appropriate decisions
- A high degree of confidentiality in dealing with sensitive matters
- Ability to handle multiple demands and to respond rapidly to changing priorities.
