Assists in preparing and submitting small grant and contract proposals. Drafts and negotiates contractual arrangements and procurement proposals, conducts cost analyses, processes invoices, arbitrates claims and complaints, and performs all collections activities. Monitors grants and contractual arrangements and prepares routine financial documentation. Assists with policy and procedural interpretation and with the preparation of pre-award applications and reports to grant agencies.

Essential Functions
The Department of Medicine-Research Administration at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified Pre-Award Grants & Contracts specialist. The pre-award administrator position provides pre-award support to Principal Investigators seeking funding through a variety of federal agencies and non-federal organization. This position is responsible for directing the activities of grant accountants as it relates to pre-award activities. Responsibilities include: - reviewing and preparing research proposals - review of agency guidelines, development of budgets, preparation of agency-specific forms, and processing of proposals through the Office of Research - providing analytical support in the review of grant and contract proposals - acting as a liaison between PI, Office of Research, and funding agency - assisting in the development of policies, procedures, and methods to handle unusual or complex situations

Little physical effort required. Duties are primarily sedentary. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
