Description
Rothwell Figg is seeking a Marketing & Business Development Manager with 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in the legal services industry. This position will be responsible for developing and executing strategic business development and marketing initiatives for the firm and its intellectual property (IP), litigation, and technology practices, with a focus on growing revenue, deepening key client relationships, and enhancing the firm’s market profile and digital visibility. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex technical and legal concepts into clear, client friendly messaging; strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines, stakeholders, and priorities in a fast-paced environment; high comfort level with CRM, experience management, digital marketing, social media, and analytics tools; strong Excel and PowerPoint skills; and strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications or related field is preferred. This position requires flexibility to work additional hours as needed. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and regularly update strategic business development plans for the firm’s practice areas, including annual practice and partner plans with measurable goals and pipelines.
- Build and maintain a rolling pipeline of targets and opportunities; track progress, report on key metrics, and recommend course corrections to practice leadership.
- Work directly with members and associates to coach them on individual business development plans, client targeting, and effective pursuit strategies.
- Lead and coordinate pitches, capability statements, RFP/RFI responses, and conference submissions for IP, litigation and technology opportunities, ensuring clear value propositions, matter experience, and differentiation.
- Managing and coordinating all firm marketing, branding, advertising, and public relations activities.
- Managing the firm’s website content, track and report on social media, blog and website analytics
- Partner with attorneys to create and promote thought leadership (client alerts, blogs, webinars, CLEs, podcasts).
- Plan and execute client facing events, sponsorships, trade shows, and conferences relevant to the tech and IP ecosystem; evaluate ROI and follow up systematically on leads.
- Support and coordinate directory and industry publication submissions (e.g., Chambers, Legal 500, IAM, WTR); track rankings and feedback to inform positioning.
- Conduct and synthesize market, client, and competitor research (including on emerging technologies and IP trends) to arm partners with actionable intelligence and inform practice strategy.
- Work with finance and practice leadership to manage and monitor practice marketing and BD budgets, track spend versus plan, and assess return on investment.
- Ensure effective use and adoption of CRM and marketing technology tools (email marketing, experience management, intake, analytics) to support targeting, campaigns, and reporting.
- Managing the publication of attorney and firm awards and recognition (e.g., Super Lawyers, Chambers USA, Legal 500, MH AV ratings, IAM 1000, etc.).
- Establishing relationships and liaise with key media contacts, including generating and fielding media inquiries and collaborating with appropriate members of the firm for preparing responses.
- Developing and implementing procedures for drafting submissions and nominations/rankings for industry publications.
- Managing and coordinating external firm publication placements, draft press releases, and coordinate communication projects (e.g., email alerts, firm news, presentations, case digests, summaries).
- Managing the design, content and production of all internal and external collateral (print and electronic), including keeping all firm information up to date with external vendors and directory publication listings.
- Working closely with and report to the firm’s Marketing Committee.
- Serve as a visible, trusted point of contact for lawyers on all marketing and business development matters.
SALARY RANGE: $135,000 – $160,000
