Ocean City, Maryland — Repeat Annual Role — Housing Possible
We are seeking a reliable, safety-first USCG OUPV Captain to help operate a 72’ commercial advertising vessel in Ocean City, MD for the 2026. This is a steady, repeat seasonal role with the opportunity to grow into a long-term lead operator.
This position is best suited for a calm, experienced operator with strong judgement and conservative boat handling skills. Best suited for operators who prefer steady, predictable work over high-pressure charter or tour operations.
Position Overview
Location: Ocean City, Maryland
Season: Memorial Day weekend through first weekend of October (~100 operating days; weather dependent)
Schedule:
Weekends early and late season
Daily operations mid-season
Typical hours ~9:00 AM – 6:30 PM (weather dependent)
Some operating days may be cancelled or shortened due to weather
Crew: Always minimum 2 onboard (captain + deckhand)
Vessel
72’ LOA / 26’ Beam commercial vessel
No bow/stern thrusters
Large mounted signs create significant windage (boat reacts strongly to wind)
Safe, patient docking and good judgment are essential
Role & Responsibilities
Operate vessel safely in varying wind and weather conditions
Dock and maneuver conservatively with safety-first mindset
Work alongside experienced captain during initial progression period
Perform light maintenance (oil changes, prep/paint/caulk, basic troubleshooting)
Assist with daily operations and communication
Load pre-approved display templates (no advanced programming required)
Maintain consistent offshore track, parallel alignment to shoreline, and precise schedule timing to meet required waypoint and display positioning standards.
Progression to Solo Operation
This role progresses toward solo operation after trust and vessel familiarity are established.
First season focuses on learning vessel behavior and building trust
Solo operation introduced gradually in favorable conditions after demonstrated competence
Conservative decision-making and willingness to ask for guidance are highly valued
We prioritize judgment, patience, and safety over aggressive boat handling.
Compensation & Housing
$28–$30/hr depending on experience
End-of-season completion bonus
Return-season incentive for long-term operators
Recurring seasonal role opportunity
Housing may be available for the right out-of-area candidate. (Details discussed during interview).
