Zingerman’s Department for People is looking for an HR Generalist to join our team. The Department for People is a group of HR professionals committed to the success of our customers: the businesses and the people within the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses (ZCoB). The ZCoB is a $85 million dollar food-focused organization made up of 11 operating businesses, served by Zingerman’s Service Network, that includes HR, IT, Finance, Creative Services, etc. that work together to serve all of the ZCoB businesses.
Reporting to the Human Resources Director, the HR Generalist is responsible for collaboratively working towards the Department for People vision that supports and contributes to realizing Zingerman's Community of Businesses' vision and strategic plans, including defining, developing and delivering Zingerman's-wide human resources efforts and programs. The HR Generalist works with Zingerman's businesses on specific HR issues, opportunities and efforts, acting as a value-added resource to individual managing partners, managers and staff. Work schedules are typically Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, with flexible hours when needed (some weekends, evenings and holidays)

Compensation Information
Full-timed salaried position with a salary range of $65,000 - $75,000
Performance Expectations - Essential Functions:
Promotes the vision of Zingerman's Department for People to managing partners, managers and staff and participates in developing and achieving Department for People goals and objectives.
For assigned businesses, is the first point of HR contact and supports achieving desired business results with a focus on the following areas: recruiting and staffing, orientation & training, performance management, employee engagement and employee relations, leadership development and compensation planning.
Works on-site in ZCoB businesses with opportunities for hybrid work.
Acts as back-up to other HR team members as needed.
Works with ZCoB managers to:Identify strategic HR issues for the ZCoB, and collaboratively develop effective programs to support and promote the Zingerman's culture.
Identify tactical HR and/or employee relations issues within assigned businesses and collaboratively address issues and solve problems.
Acts as a resource to staff answering questions and addressing issues in coordination with management, as required by individual circumstances. Also, handles employee relations counseling and exit interviews.
Works with ZCoB managers toward fair and consistent treatment of staff and compliance with legal requirements and ZCoB policies and procedures.
Serves on organization committees or workgroups as assigned.
Regularly teaches internal classes and writes articles for monthly staff newsletter.
Uses effective oral/written communication skills, including excellent listening skills.
Consistently delivers exceptional service to customers.
Able to maintain strict confidentiality.
Works with HR Liaisons, when applicable, and supports their development, growth and objectives.
Performance Expectations - Other Functions:
Administers various human resources plans and procedures; assists in development and implementation of HR policies and procedures.
Implements continual improvements in the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of HR programs.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; Master's degree a plus!
Five years of professional level work experience with at least three years of experience as an HR Generalist
SPHR or PHR certification preferred
Experience in a food related business is preferred
Spanish language skills is a plus
Strong computer skills including email, office, payroll/human resources information systems.
Experience in the following areas of HR: recruiting & staffing, employee relations, orientation & training, leadership development, diversity & inclusion, performance management, benefits administration and compensation planning.

Physical Demands
