JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT
DEPARTMENT: GROUNDS
REPORTS TO: DIRCECTOR ENGINEERING
ISSUE DATE: MARCH 1, 2026
PURPOSE AND PERFORMANCE GOALS
The Assistant Superintendent supports operations for Crane's Landing and its associated maintenance department. This includes the golf course, clubhouse grounds, practice areas, and peripheral boundaries of the course. Responsibilities include all aspects of golf course maintenance, construction, and operations. In doing so provides agronomic direction to maintain the golf course at the highest quality level possible at all times. Observes compliance with established corporate standards, local, state and national codes and regulations to protect the asset, guests and Associates. Maintains a safe, productive work environment and ensures that market position standards are met.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Per established maintenance standards, supervise the care of greens, fairways, tees, sand traps, bodies of water, roughs, and clubhouse grounds.
- Provide regular feedback on course conditions, tasks, projects, and issues that pertain to the golf course and its Associates to the Grounds Manager.
- Supervise and assist in all essential duties of Groundskeeper team including course setup, mowing, planting, irrigation, and specialized projects as needed.
- Conduct daily scouting of golf course to identify areas needing attention or improvement.
- Follow programs for turf/grass, material and chemical maintenance in order to identify disease and effectively treat it.
- Help plan and implement landscape maintenance schedules to ensure optimal growth and appearance while also preventing weed and pest infestations.
- Calibrate and direct proper application of all fertilizer and pesticide treatments with Grounds Manager.
- Assist in daily operation of irrigation control system and schedule, troubleshoot, and help repair irrigation components in cooperation with Grounds Manager.
- Works closely with Grounds Manager to assist in equipment repair and maintenance.
- Coordinates with Grounds Manager weekly work schedules, duties, tasks, and follows up per company standards.
- Provides recommendations to Grounds Manager on the purchase of supplies and materials within budgetary limitations.
- Assists in tracking maintenance expenses (payroll, supplies, fertilizers, chemical, etc.)
- Observes compliance with all local, state, and national codes with accurate permits, laws, and licenses.
- Incorporate safe work practices in job performance.
- Maintain flexibility to take on new and different tasks as directed by the Department Manager.
- As need arises or as instructed must be willing to work with other departments or individuals.
- Attend weekly department and managerial meetings.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Help oversee, develop, train, coach, and mentor the grounds staff in accordance to all maintenance standards.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Two or four year degree in agronomy, turf management or related field.
- Two years as a Seasonal Intern and/or Assistant Superintendent.
- Minimum three years in golf course maintenance.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to communicate clearly with guests, customers, supervisors and fellow Associates orally and written. Bilingual (English - Spanish) communication ability preferred.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must be able to calculate amounts and apply basic addition, subtraction and multiplication.
REASONING ABILITY
Must be able to analyze data to make appropriate judgments regarding duties. Provide innovation and creativity to sustain maximum efficiency in company operations. Identify strengths and weaknesses of Associates and develop a foundation for growth and development.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Driver's License, State Pesticide License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job frequently requires walking, sitting, kneeling, crouching, and standing. Frequently requires reaching, grabbing, pulling, twisting, and grasping. Sometimes requires working in damp, wet or inclement conditions.
HOURS
Due to the business demands of the hospitality industry, and the fact that the hotel provides guest services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, any Associate may be required to work rotating shifts, including weekends, night shifts, and/or overtime. Also, depending on business demands, hours may be reduced at any time.
