Job Position: Full-Time Skilled Underground Excavation Laborer/Pipe Layer
Location: Position is based out of Sterling, MA. Employees meet at our Sterling facility each morning and travel to various job sites throughout Massachusetts and New England.

We are currently seeking a dependable and motivated Skilled Laborer / Pipe Layer to join our underground utility and waterworks team. This role supports municipal and private water system projects, sewer and drainage installations, fire protection systems, and a wide range of emergency repair work throughout Massachusetts and
surrounding areas. Because of the nature of our work, this position requires participation in a paid rotating on-call schedule (minimum 1 week on-call, Monday to Monday), and candidates must be able to respond to emergency service calls, including nights and weekends.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform all aspects of municipal and private water and sewer system work, including excavation and vacuum excavation
- Work with water, sewer, and drain systems, including manhole structures and catch basins
- Install, repair, and maintain water lines, services, hydrants, valves, and PIVs
- Assist with wet taps, cut-ins, hydrant installations/removals, and valve replacements
- Respond to emergency service calls after hours on a weekly on-call rotation Maintain safe trenching, shoring, and jobsite protocols Requirements:
- Valid, unrestricted Class B CDL driver’s license, including a ‘good’ driving record, Class A CDL preferred.
- High school diploma or GED
- OSHA-10 card or greater, hoisting license (1B), and hydraulic license (2A) preferred or individual attainment within 3 months of hire required
- 2+ water industry experience/licenses a plus, training available for the right candidate
- 2+ years of excavation work experience preferred
- Pass pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol testing, background, and criminal check
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
- Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time, lift to 100 pounds,
- The ability to respond to emergencies, cover on-call responsibilities, and work overtime on a regular basis (greater than 40 hours per week) is essential.
Experience/Skills:
- Ability to follow appropriate company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to speak, read, and write English; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Good organizational and decision-making skills, ability to multitask.
- Good general mechanical skills with the use of machine and handheld tools.
- Honest, hardworking individual who takes pride in providing quality workmanship.
