Description
OPEN HOUSE at our HQ – 2/13/26 2–5PM
Live by the seasons. Lead with standards. Build teams that last.
At Home Sown Gardens, we’re hiring a Field Manager to lead our gardening crews and own the systems that make great fieldwork possible. This role is for someone who doesn’t just manage people day-to-day—but builds the training, standards, and accountability that allow teams to grow and perform at a high level.
This is not a hands-off office role, and it’s not just a senior gardener position. It’s a leadership role that requires judgment, consistency, and the ability to see both the big picture and the details that make or break a workday.
You’ll spend time planning, coaching, reviewing performance, and occasionally stepping into the field when leadership is needed most.
What You’ll Do:
Leadership & People Management
Lead and support Lead Gardeners, Crew Gardeners, and Field Trainers
Provide regular feedback, coaching, recognition, and corrective action
Conduct performance evaluations and guide advancement and development plans
Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, and pride in fieldwork
Training & Development
Design and maintain all training programs, onboarding processes, and skill ladders
Create and refine SOPs, training materials, and instructional resources
Identify training needs through field data, observation, and feedback
Ensure safety, compliance, and quality standards are embedded into training
Track training effectiveness and continuously improve systems
Operations & Field Excellence
Assign crews and plan daily and weekly schedules
Ensure efficient task delegation, labor use, and resource allocation
Maintain quality control across all job sites
Support crews in the field with guidance and hands-on leadership when needed
Safety, Performance & Reporting
Lead safety culture and enforce company safety standards
Monitor productivity, quality, labor efficiency, training completion, and retention
Address recurring performance issues through structured coaching plans
What We’re Looking For:
Proven experience leading field teams in a professional gardening, landscaping, or similar environment
Strong people management, coaching, and delegation skills
Deep knowledge of horticulture and safe field operations
Experience building systems, SOPs, or training programs
Highly organized, steady under pressure, and solution-oriented
Comfortable holding high standards and having direct conversations when needed
Why This Might Be the Right Fit for You:
You care deeply about doing work the right way
You crave work that follows the rhythm of the seasons
You have strong executive functioning decision making skills
You like building systems that help people succeed, while being a hands-on leader
You can say hard things; clearly and kindly
You love being outdoors and have the grit to work in it, not just enjoy it
See our Outdoor Enthusiast (Gardener) ad for an intro to our field work
You want to grow with a company that’s invested in you, not just your output
