Description
The PEI Cleantech Alliance, a newly established, private-sector-focused, not-for-profit organization, is seeking a dynamic and entrepreneurial Executive Director to lead the organization through its formative years and into a future of growth, impact, and national prominence. The Alliance is designed to support the competitiveness, commercialization, and global expansion of PEI’s cleantech companies. The Cleantech Alliance will operate at arm’s length from government, guided by an independent Board of Directors. Its mandate is firmly industry-driven: to identify and respond to the needs of PEI’s cleantech sector by helping companies innovate, scale, attract investment, and expand into export markets. At the heart of this effort is a cluster-based economic development approach that strengthens collaboration among industry, academia, government, funders, and ecosystem partners.
As Executive Director, you will lead the implementation of PEI’s cleantech strategy, working closely with industry to refine and activate it in a way that delivers tangible private-sector outcomes. Reporting to the Board, you will build and lead a high-performing organization, serve as the central hub for ecosystem coordination, and champion PEI’s cleantech value proposition locally, nationally, and internationally. Your leadership will be instrumental in driving measurable success across the full innovation continuum - from early-stage research and company formation through to commercialization, export growth, and long-term scaling.
This role calls for a collaborative, ecosystem-minded leader with strong strategic and operational capabilities. You bring senior leadership experience in economic development, innovation ecosystems, cluster development, and/or cleantech-adjacent sectors, along with a proven ability to work at the intersection of industry, government, and academia. You are comfortable translating strategy into action, building trusted relationships, and aligning diverse stakeholders around shared goals. Experience supporting commercialization, startups, scale-ups, or export-driven growth is highly valued, while direct cleantech expertise is an asset.
This is a rare opportunity to shape a new organization from the ground up and to position Prince Edward Island as a national leader in cleantech-driven economic development. If you are motivated by impact, collaboration, and the opportunity to build something enduring, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful contribution to PEI’s economy, sustainability goals, and global competitiveness.
Make your mark on the future of cleantech in Prince Edward Island. Apply now to lead the Cleantech Alliance into its next chapter.
