Job Description:
Budget Title: Staff Associate (SL-4)
Salary: $85,000 - $100,000
The Director of SOM Career Services is a visionary leader responsible for the design, implementation, and scaling of a modern career ecosystem within the School of Management. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Business Operations, the Director will lead the strategy for professional development and career placement for undergraduate and master's students across in-person and online programs.
SOM is looking for an innovator, not a maintainer. Successful candidates will:

- See employment gaps as opportunities for SOM to provide solutions.
- Position SOM as an engine of state and national human capital development
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership & Innovation
- Develop a career services strategy aligned with SOM's mission, goals, and long-term workforce priorities.
- Implement an expansion model to sustain NYC placement strength while building new employer pipelines in Central/Upstate NY and emerging markets.
- Transform Career Services into a hub for professional growth through non-degree credentials, certificates, and regional employer partnerships.
- Develop a career support model for in-person and online graduate learners.
- Pursue grants, sponsorships, and strategic partnerships.
- Partnerships & External Engagement
- Execute outreach strategies to cultivate new partnerships and expand high-quality internship and job opportunities.
- Partner with the SOM Constituent Relations Office to further transform the NYC alumni network into a strategic asset for SOM.
- Represent SOM at professional forums and on University-wide committees.
- Curricular & Institutional Integration
- Refine how career-ready competencies and professional skills are embedded into the core curriculum to align with the future of work.
- Oversee the department's digital and web presence in coordination with Marketing and the Dean's Office.
- Data Intelligence & Performance
- Leverage labor market data to assess placement ROI and emerging employment trends.
- Deliver performance reports to leadership, providing insights on employment outcomes and shifting market demands.
- Staff Leadership & Program Management
- Supervise Career Services staff, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the effectiveness of career programming, employer engagement, and student outcomes.

Requirements:
- Master's degree in business, employment relations, human resources, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience supervising staff or managing departmental operations
- Proven track record of launching new programs, offices, or strategic initiatives
- Experience using data to drive strategic decision-making
- Effective relationship-building skills
- Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Willingness to travel
Preferred:
- PhD or Terminal Degree
- Proven track record of interpreting, applying, and revising institutional policies
- Familiarity with the New York City corporate landscape and economic development opportunities in Upstate/Central New York, and northern Pennsylvania
- Experience delivering "high-stakes" feedback to students and external partners while maintaining a supportive relationship
