Description
A counselor provides professional mental health counseling and consultation services for the campus using a brief therapeutic model to address the emotional, developmental and behavioral needs of students. This role also creates programming to increase healthy lifestyle and coping across campus and provides advocacy for university mental health policy and initiatives. Position involves assessment/screening of needs, consultation, outreach, crisis management and professional counseling services (individual, couples and group). This is a full-time benefit and paid leave eligible position working 10 months with a 2-month break during months of June and July. This position involves minimal work expectations outside of normal UW-Platteville office hours (occasional night hours, travel out-of-town, etc.)

Requirements
Required:
- Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field.
- Professional licensure in counseling or social work, or be eligible for licensure as a Professional Counselor or Social Worker in Wisconsin within 6 months.
- Experience providing mental health counseling.
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel, or organizational matters.
- Ability to work a varied schedule with flexible hours including some weekend and evenings.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Mental health counseling experience is desired.
- Familiar with electronic medical records.
- Proficient in providing short-term, developmentally-focused psychotherapy.
