Description
Porter Wright has an opportunity for a Communications Manager in the Columbus, Ohio office. The Communications Manager role provides coordination and execution of the firm's public relations and marketing communications function and has an integral part in communicating the firm’s messages in every market it serves and nationally to create compelling communications strategy. The ideal candidate will have exceptional writing, media relations and editing skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to create messages and experiences intended for a sophisticated business and legal audience. The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller advancing individuals throughout multiple verticals. The candidate is social-savvy and can spot the latest trends and translate them into brand opportunities for the firm. They have a proven track record of earning media placement and creating campaigns that show an ability to demonstrate an understanding of the legal industry. This role requires a creative thinker and a highly-skilled writer; capable of managing multiple high-profile projects across a matrixed organization while working collaboratively with key stakeholders and team leadership. The candidate must have experience effectively leading PR agencies while developing and executing upon communication strategies.
This role touches upon a wide array of marketing channels, including but not limited to:
- Creates and executes ongoing public relations and marketing/visibility plans with an emphasis on the firm’s nine markets
- Serves as an authority and owner for the firm’s external communication channels. Writes and oversees external communication content spanning website language, social media strategy and execution, press releases, timely thought leadership and more all while utilizing a uniform voice and tone consistent with the firm brand
- Build and maintain relationships with legal and business publications for advertising placement
- Serves as the firm’s media liaison to create pitches for article placement and media interviews, while serving as a point of contact for incoming media inquiries
- Identifies, tracks and analyzes all firm publicity – in print, web and social media – optimizing use of relevant tools, including CISION and Sprout
- Seeks, writes and tracks business, legal, practice-specific, market-specific and firm-wide awards that enhance market awareness, with a focus on local accolades, as well as large national honors
Requirements
- 12+ years marketing experience, preferably within professional services.
- Undergraduate degree in marketing, journalism, communications or related business experience.
- Must be proficient in document management, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email (Outlook).
- Capability in InDesign and Photoshop is a plus.
- Periodic travel to the firm’s markets required.
