Communications Director
Job description:
The Communications Director is responsible for running operations for the Mahan for
Governor press shop: implementing the strategy developed by communications
consultants and advisors, and managing the campaign’s press secretary, digital director
and in-language media program.
Responsibilities:
The Communications Director has the following responsibilities and duties:
Work closely with the Communications Advisors and Consultants to oversee the
entire Communications Department and execute the communications plan.
Draft and edit speeches, press releases, op-eds, statements, talking points, and
rapid-response materials.
Manage local and national booking for Mayor Mahan and surrogates.
Lead pitching program for positive and opposition coverage.
Collaborate with policy, political, field and fundraising teams to execute the
overarching campaign plan.
Requirements:
The Communications Director should have the following skills, attributes, and
experience:
At least one cycle in a senior communications role on a statewide campaign.
Extensive knowledge of California and national politics.
Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
A valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, and a willingness to travel frequently.
Willingness to commit fully to the demands of a high-intensity statewide race,
working nights, weekends, and holidays.
Candidates with proficiency in Spanish or Vietnamese and connections to
in-state media are preferred.
