Position Summary:
This is a 1 FTE position. The Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) shall work with the individuals receiving addiction related services at Saratoga County Mental Health and Addiction Services. Peers use their shared personal lived experience to promote clients’ recovery, offering support, advocacy, and skill development opportunities. A majority of participant contacts take place face-to-face at Saratoga County MH & Addiction Services or via tele-health services. Documentation of services provided is a component of this work. Peer must be certified.
Duties and responsibilities
Assist individuals with Substance Use Disorder in various settings (such as at Healing Springs, within Saratoga County Addiction Services (SCAS), general community, at another agency, emergency department etc.)
Effectively engage with individuals who may want to enter into recovery or are questioning recovery
Work within a team and maintain a collaborative relationship with all outside groups and agencies
Provide non-clinical crisis support, especially after periods of hospitalization, incarceration or in-patient
Teach participants recovery skills, based on shared life experiences
Lead appropriate non-clinical recovery groups for individuals utilizing services
Link participants with needed community resources and treatment services
Attend weekly team meetings with Healing Springs and SCAS to offer insight, suggestions and assistance where individuals and/or staff are struggling
Participate in community outreach events and training sessions to increase public understanding of addiction and recovery
Meet individuals in safe community settings when they are unable or unwilling to come into the treatment setting
Provide Narcan training/education for individuals/groups.
Complete all documentation, reports and paperwork in a timely manner
Requirements
Qualifications
Successful recovery from addiction (three years preferred)
Certified as a Recovery Peer Advocate (substance use)
Ability to model behavior consistent with the mission of the Prevention Council and the Healing Springs Recovery Community Center
Understanding and knowledge of addiction, multiple pathways of recovery and mental health as well as services available preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational skills, including but not limited to the ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends
Ability to travel throughout Saratoga County (requires current, valid Driver License, proof of vehicle insurance and access to vehicle
