Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides quality customer service by responding to customer issues and concerns in a timely manner. Reviews circumstances and takes appropriate action. Reports customer service issues and concerns to supervisor.
Ensures staff and patron adherence to operating policies and procedures.
Effectively responds to emergency situations.
Keeps accurate records of aquatic facility usage, incidents, accidents, and chemical levels.
Performs lifeguarding duties.
Assists in developing and conducting in-service training sessions.
Instructs all levels of swim lessons, as assigned.
Assists with special events.
Facility supervision – Customer Service (computer applications)
Completes routine safety checks of pools, equipment and the surrounding aquatics area in order to maintain safety and health standards. Tests and maintains chemical balance of pool. Identifies and addresses problems.
Assists in performing routine cleaning, maintenance and repairs of aquatic equipment. Resolves problems as situations arise. Arranges assistance with maintenance and repairs, if necessary.
Leads, trains and oversees employees in job duties; provides supervisor with input on recommendations on employee performance and procedures.
Assists in developing, administering, coordination, teaching and promoting aquatic programs including swimming lessons, and lifeguard training.
Performs routine maintenance and repairs of aquatic equipment, diagnosing problems, assists with arrangement for maintenance and repairs, and ensures the ongoing safety of aquatics facilities. Resolves problems as situations arise.
Assists with the overall operation of City pool and supervision of staff.
May work a varying schedule and/or shift.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
First-line supervisor. Provides assistance and guidance to pool personnel.
GUIDANCE AND DECISION MAKING:
Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations and recommend alternative actions in situations with precedent.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, swim, rescue, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, twist, push, pull, jump, climb, reach, talk, hear, and see. The employee is also required to frequently perform light to heavy lifting, up to 50 lbs.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred, Bachelor's degree with at least one year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATION:
American Red Cross Lifeguard including CPR-Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, obtainable within 90 days
Water Safety Instructor or equivalent, obtainable within 60 days
Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator, obtainable within 90 days
