Description
The Nelson Golf and Sports Club is 36 holes of golf over 400 acres of pure luxury. Ranked among America's leading venues, TPC Las Colinas and Cottonwood Valley are part of our comprehensive, award-winning Dallas golf club and resort. TPC proudly hosted the Byron Nelson Championship, an annual PGA TOUR event for 35 years and is an 18-hole, par 70 course measuring 7,166 yards from the championship tees. The 18-hole, par 71 Cottonwood Valley golf course measures 7,120 yards. The golf courses consist of Bentgrass greens and Bermudagrass fairways, tees, and rough.As a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, the two private golf courses have an array of native and ornamental plants and wildlife inventory. The Agronomy Department has been honored with the 2017, 2020, 2021, 2023 Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards (ELGA), which are presented annually by GCSAA and Golf Digest. The awards recognize golf course superintendents and their courses for overall course management excellence and best management practices in the areas of water conservation, water quality management, energy conservation, pollution prevention, waste management, wildlife and habitat conservation, communication and outreach, and leadership.
The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent shares responsibility for leading, overseeing and assisting in the execution of daily operations of the Golf Course Maintenance department to achieve the property standards. Including, but not limited to supervising and completing routine golf course maintenance, chemical/fertilizer applications and record keeping, and equipment operation.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- 1-3 years of turfgrass management experience, with a clear trajectory toward becoming a golf course superintendent.
- Working knowledge of golf course maintenance, including tees, fairways, greens, seeding practices, plant care, fertilizers, herbicides, pest control, drainage methods, and irrigation systems.
- Basic knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices, with a commitment to advancing expertise.
- Understanding of golf facility construction principles and the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and other applications as specified by the superintendent.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, to maintain effective employee and public relations.
- Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of budgeting and expense management.
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team, with supervisory experience or demonstrated potential.
- Positive attitude, strong organizational skills, and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Understanding of internal controls and ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows to prepare for future superintendent roles.
Special Requirements
- Possess or be able to obtain a state-required pesticide applicator license within 90 days of employment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Walking, driving, lifting 50 lbs., and performing repetitive motion. Standing, lifting, bending, kneeling, and walking for extended periods.
- Working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to lawn equipment, hand tools, and motorized carts.
- Exposure to noise, dust, grease, uneven terrain, and moving equipment.
